Greenwood Aerospace is an aerospace equipment and logistics company focused on providing rapid, innovative, and agile aerospace products ranging from aircraft leasing and sales to parts and ground support.

Our primary emphasis well be supporting government aviation initiatives and helping large government Prime contractors worldwide to accomplish their complicated task of providing services both OCONUS and CONUS for a variety of government agencies.

Our new name as Greenwood Aerospace is a more encompassing way of making sure our customers understand our new mission which is to provide aerospace solutions that ensure our customers have everything, they need from a small business to be successful at winning and keeping the business of their customer.

Oklahoma City, OK June 5, 2012 – Acorn Growth Companies, a private equity firm focused exclusively on aerospace and defense opportunities, announced the recipients of its sixth annual Seeds of Greatness Awards. Public and private recipients were the Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission’s Center for Aerospace Supplier Quality (CASQ) and The Greenwood Group respectively.

The Seeds of Greatness Award, which Acorn introduced in 2007, recognizes Oklahoma aerospace and defense companies, government agencies, teams, or individuals that have created cost savings or revenue enhancements through innovation from both the public and private sectors.

The Greenwood Group of Ponca City was honored recently at the Seeds of Greatness Awards by the Acorn Growth Companies, a private equity firm focused exclusively on aerospace and defense opportunities. The Center for Aerospace Supplier Quality is an innovative program created to assist Oklahoma companies in capturing more business from the Department of Defense,” stated Acorn Partner Jeff Davis. “Since its inception, CASQ has assisted 27 companies in receiving over 300 awards totaling $33 million.” “For the private sector, this year we have selected The Greenwood Group,” announced Rick Nagel, a Partner at Acorn. “This Ponca City-based company continues to be an Oklahoma leader in innovation focusing on three primary business units: aviation, government programs and sensor testing. According to the U.S. Department of State, the purpose of the award is to recognize significant and outstanding contributions that small businesses make. The National Small Business Prime Contractor of the Year Award demonstrates the highest degree of excellence in performance of Department of State contracts.

Greenwood works with the U.S. Forest Service using aircraft for a wide variety of missions. However, the primary mission of the Forest Service Aviation is to support the ground firefighters through a variety of means including safe delivery of smokejumpers, rappellers, air attack, firefighter and cargo transport, surveillance, aerial reconnaissance and fire intelligence gathering, and aerial delivery of fire retardant and water.

“As can be imagined, as Government pilots execute these missions, often in very hazardous environmental situation and fast paced operation tempo, it is reassuring to work with a company with an exemplarily record and work ethic” said Fredrick Geijsbeek, Greenwood’s Nominating Contracting Officer.

The Greenwood Group has worked hand-in-hand with the U.S. Forest Service for five years contracting aircraft and support for aerial supervision and other administrative activities.

“We are behind the scenes,” Greenwood said. “Everyone sees the large air tankers dropping retardant on the fires. However, what they don’t see is our planes leading them into the fire.”

Greenwood has grown significantly in the last few years, expanding offices in Wichita and currently operating aircraft from 14 bases located throughout the United States, including Alaska and are currently exploring other opportunities with the U.S. Forest Service.

“I take my job very seriously,” Greenwood said. “When my name is on the plane, I become accountable for others’ lives. It becomes personal. Our planes execute missions in extremely hazardous environmental situations, at times operating 200 feet above the most impressive fires in the nation. Our primary focus is to protect National Forest lands, cities, businesses, homes, and lives from wildland fires.”

Some of their other customers have included the Department of Defense, Department of Energy, NASA, the U.S. Army, N. O. A. A., and others.
