Greenwood Group of Ponca City Honored

The Greenwood Group of Ponca City was honored recently at the Seeds of Greatness Awards by the Acorn Growth Companies, a private equity firm focused exclusively on aerospace and defense opportunities. Public and private recipients were the Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission’s Center for Aerospace Supplier Quality (CASQ) and The Greenwood Group respectively.

The Seeds of Greatness Award, which Acorn introduced in 2007, recognizes Oklahoma aerospace and defense companies, government agencies, teams, or individuals that have created cost savings or revenue enhancements through innovation from both the public and private sectors. “This year’s public sector award goes to Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission’s Center for Aerospace Supplier Quality.

The Center for Aerospace Supplier Quality is an innovative program created to assist Oklahoma companies in capturing more business from the Department of Defense,” stated Acorn Partner Jeff Davis. “Since its inception, CASQ has assisted 27 companies in receiving over 300 awards totaling $33 million.” “For the private sector, this year we have selected The Greenwood Group,” announced Rick Nagel, a Partner at Acorn. “This Ponca City-based company continues to be an Oklahoma leader in innovation focusing on three primary business units: aviation, government programs and sensor testing. The company is nationally recognized, including being nominated National Small Business Prime Contractor of the Year by the United States Forest Service in 2009.”

Presenting this year’s awards were Acorn Partners Jeff Davis and Rick Nagel. Accepting the award on behalf of their companies were Chuck Greenwood, CEO of The Greenwood Group, Ponca City, and Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission’s Center director Victor Bird. In accepting theGreenwood Group award, Greenwood said, “I am honored by the recognition of this prestigious award and I am humbled to be recognized by them as they are true leaders in the world of aerospace and defense. It is really an honor.” Greenwood said being in the government service business has opened doors to a host of government agencies. They have joined forces with some of the largest names in government contracting including the Department of Agriculture, Department of Energy, United States Army Department of Defense, Sandia National Labs, Battelle National Labs, Lawrence Berkeley National Labs, NASA, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to name a few. Over the last few years, the Greenwood Group has grown significantly with their Government service division topping 18 million in Federal sales in 2011.
